Common questions
Before you ask
Is mentorship the same as supervision?
No. Your supervisor is appointed by your university and signs off your work. A MUPSN mentor is an additional, informal relationship: someone outside your department who has done what you are doing and can talk you through it.
How long does matching take?
The coordinator reviews requests as they arrive and matches on topic, stage and availability. You will hear back by your preferred contact method.
Does it cost anything?
No. Mentorship through MUPSN is free to members of the network.
Can I ask for a specific person?
Yes. Pick a preferred mentor in the panel beside the form. It is treated as a preference, not a guarantee, because mentors have their own supervision loads.
What if I need help right now?
Book a 45-minute session with a facilitator instead. That is designed for a specific problem you are stuck on this week, and slots are usually available within a few days.
